The rapid demographic transition toward an aging population in India has intensified the need to understand the coping capacity and psychosocial adaptation patterns among the elderly. This study presents a descriptive analysis of how older adults in India manage stress, maintain psychological resilience, and adapt to socio-economic, health-related, and environmental challenges. The research integrates interdisciplinary perspectives, combining insights from psychosocial health, nutritional science, and technological interventions to examine adaptive mechanisms in elderly populations.
Drawing on existing literature, particularly the work of Agarwal et al. (2023), the study explores the interrelationship between resilience, stress management, and psychosocial well-being. It further investigates how factors such as nutrition, health conditions, socio-economic status, and access to technological support systems influence coping capacity. The role of emerging technologies, including dietary recommender systems and ambient assisted living tools, is analyzed to assess their potential in enhancing elderly well-being.
The study adopts a conceptual-descriptive framework, synthesizing findings from multiple empirical and theoretical sources. It identifies key determinants of coping capacity, including emotional regulation, social support, financial stability, and health management. Additionally, it highlights the importance of adaptive behaviors in mitigating the effects of aging-related stressors.
The findings suggest that psychosocial adaptation among Indian elderly is a multi-dimensional process influenced by both internal and external factors. While resilience and coping strategies enable many individuals to maintain well-being, structural inequalities and health challenges can limit adaptive capacity. The integration of technological solutions and policy interventions emerges as a critical pathway for improving outcomes.
The paper concludes by proposing a comprehensive framework for enhancing coping capacity through integrated approaches involving healthcare, social support systems, and technological innovation. It emphasizes the need for targeted interventions and future research to address gaps in understanding and implementation.
