Bio-Based Elimination of Zn By A Tolerance-Adapted Microorganism: Relevance to Factory Waste Management

The discharge of zinc (Zn)-containing industrial effluents presents a persistent environmental challenge due to the metal’s non-biodegradable nature, toxicity at elevated concentrations, and capacity for bioaccumulation. Conventional physicochemical treatment technologies, while effective under controlled conditions, are often constrained by high operational costs, energy demands, and secondary waste generation. In response, bio-based remediation approaches utilizing tolerance-adapted microorganisms have emerged as promising alternatives for sustainable heavy metal removal.
This study explores the potential of a tolerance-adapted microbial system for the elimination of Zn from factory wastewater. The research integrates theoretical perspectives from microbial resistance mechanisms, environmental policy frameworks, and industrial waste management practices. A structured methodological approach is employed, involving wastewater characterization, microbial adaptation, biosorption kinetics, and performance optimization under varying environmental conditions.
The findings indicate that tolerance-adapted microorganisms demonstrate significant Zn removal efficiency through mechanisms including surface adsorption, intracellular sequestration, and metabolic transformation. These results align with previous studies highlighting the effectiveness of microbial systems in heavy metal remediation (Pratap et al., 2022). The efficiency of Zn removal is influenced by key operational parameters such as pH, temperature, and biomass concentration, emphasizing the need for optimized process conditions.
Furthermore, the study contextualizes microbial remediation within broader waste management strategies, particularly in industrial systems where regulatory frameworks and environmental policies play a critical role. Insights from waste treatment practices and environmental planning highlight the importance of integrating biological methods into existing treatment infrastructures.
Despite the advantages of bio-based systems, challenges related to scalability, process stability, and variability in wastewater composition remain significant. The study concludes that microbial Zn elimination represents a viable and environmentally sustainable solution, with strong potential for application in industrial waste management systems. - Downloads
